Chelsea’s new badge

Chelsea's three generation of badge

Old old one on the left, current one in the middle, and on the right one that will come into effect soon. I quite like it, but the lion does remind people a bit of the devil in Man Utd badge.

Modern logo, modern brand. It gives me some relieve that they still use “Chelsea Football Club”. We might not change name afterall.

Story from The Sun.

Arjen Robben celebrating after his goal

Ha! So we lost once to Man City, but who can remember that now? The defeat actually seem to do us much good, as seen from the attacking football (and goals) that followed. At the same time the invincible gunner had gone 5 games without winning after that game at Old Trafford. (God, the newspapers are still talking about it)

Our good run coincide with the return of Arjen Robben, who I think is brilliant. Not since Zola had my anticipation goes up so high every time the ball is on his feet. Good time to be a blue fan, definitely. :)

Anyway, here’s the current league table:

Team P W D L F A Pts
Chelsea 12 9 2 1 17 3 29
Arsenal 12 8 3 1 32 13 27
Everton 12 7 2 3 14 11 23

I’ll include Man Utd, but the table will get pretty long. ;)

Miracle Run

Last night Arsenal lost in the Premier League for the first time, after going on a 49 matches unbeaten run. The last record was 42 games by Nottingham Forest many years ago. It is said that this run will never be repeated again.

So how (un)likely is it?

To quantify things, suppose the chance of them losing a game is 5%. (and no team is _that good) The chance of winning or draw is thus 95% or 0.95. The probability of 49 consecutive wins or draws is 0.95 × 0.95 × 0.95 x … 49 times, which comes out to be about 0.08 or 8%. This is close to the chance of getting 4 heads in a row in coin flipping.

Of course 5% losing chance is an underestimate, and even with their superhuman flowing football (which I adore), a more realistic number would be about 15–20%. If we take 15%, the chance of 49 games unbeaten run is 0.035%, or about the same as getting 12–13 heads in a row.

London FC ?

[textile]

A hush hush from Chelsea’s fan forum is that Chelsea FC could soon be renamed “London FC”. This is what most people thinks are what the official website meant by:

a major announcement that we hope will have a huge impact on the club’s identity for the next 100 yearschelseafc.com

This is more than crazy! Other names toyed in the discussion were

  • Chelsea (without FC, this is to try to build it as a brand and not just football club, like Man Utd did)
  • London Chelsea
  • London
  • CFC London

Arrgh..
